Empatheias Specific :
During Bulma’s year plus at Empatheias, in a way it was like reverting back to her teenage years travelling with Goku just… naturally, without Goku. Without technology that she was accustomed, too, which was the larger hurdle of all of them. She also learned a little more reliance on other people, having to lean on her son and husband to bring in money and other items through bounty hunting, and even on her other family members for things like building her new facilities. Not being completely able to do whatever she wanted without the help of her stronger friends and family took a little getting used to, and probably a few fits of temper along the way not being able to achieve things all on her own. Nevertheless, the reminder that she could rely on them all for things when she needed them? A fantastic little thing to take in and grow from as an adult.
The change in world did nothing to dampen Bulma’s usual propensity to aim for the stars, and actually afforded her a chance to build something of an empire from the bottom up. She managed to develop a new way to make Vegeta a gravity room before he arrived, and built up quite a clientele base for inventions and repairs while in the city. Having to start from scratch was quite a challenge for a woman who’s lived in comfort and hasn’t known a day where she or her intelligence weren’t recognized, and so her passion for invention (even necessary invention) was renewed, as well as her past passion for taking already made items and revamping them in to something new. She intends to carry that on into different worlds as needed.
Personality:
Bulma Briefs is a series of extremes all rolled up into one, and unapologetic about any one single thing that makes her up. Genius, extreme vanity and selfishness all rolled into one, and yet a semi-temperamental nature that allows her to be helpful and friendly to any of the Z Fighters she chooses to befriend, housing rouge saiyan princes with nowhere else to go even though he once murdered her boyfriend. Despite this, she is a huge figure in most of her friend’s lives as well as the people of West City, inventing new gadgets in order to transport herself or her friends from one fight to another, or a Dragon Radar to be able to sense the dragonballs no matter where they’re located on any given planet. She’s a strange mix of many components, that much is for sure, but that too can all be chalked up to the eccentricity of a genius with beauty and brains. Cockiness is easy, after all, when she’s either been able to invent or purchase whatever she’s wanted from a young age, and has often been able to use her sex appeal to get what people haven’t given her easily. Of course, with maturity came a little change of heart as well, her mind has changed over from a more selfish mindset of finding and doing whatever she pleases to creating in order to help out her friends and family, as well as being a mother to her young son. Of course, the prestige that comes along with it doesn’t really hurt either, now does it? But any executive of a company likes a little recognition every now and then, so it isn’t too egotistical..
Right?
She is, undeniably, a genius of extreme intellect, to the point where other scientists in her world can’t seem to figure out the complexity of the things she creates. Even on alien planets Bulma’s technology seems to match if not exceed what is alien, and she easily figures out how to fix alien technology. Vegeta’s broken scouter and the broken Namekian ship that Mr. Popo shows her before she, Krillin, and Gohan actually fly to Namek are prime examples of her technological prowess. Naturally, with such an intellect that’s often praised, a large ego has risen from it over the years, and Bulma will be the first to tell anyone about how intelligent she is and how they can improve whatever it is they’re doing. In the scientific community Bulma and her father are moguls, and yet she still makes time and has the guts enough to travel all over the world and universe with Goku and the others when the urge strikes her. However, her thirst for adventure doesn’t stop her from being easily frightened when she’s under threat, because sadly she hasn’t quite come up with something to make her more powerful just yet. Still, the semi-wanderlust of being a young woman on a boring green planet that’s often under threat doesn’t stop her from traveling and experiencing, and probably bringing back alien technology with her in order to stay a step ahead of her competition. In comparison to her super strong friends and family, Bulma may not play too large of a role in saving the Earth time and time again, but her inventions have at least played even a small part in that, and that in itself is incredibly gratifying for her.
Though Bulma has a series of annoying habits and traits that may turn people off from her, her character isn’t only being convinced she is the most beautiful and intelligent person in the world that revolves around her lab and a bath tub. She finds hard work and making quality products extremely gratifying, and a certain hard-headed persistence helps her to achieve her goals no matter her time constraints or adverse conditions facing her. When she puts her mind to it Bulma can pretty much achieve whatever it is she puts her mind to, and the list of what she can’t do grows smaller with every invention she creates in order to make future inventions easier and more advanced. Everything is a stepping stone to bigger and better things so far as she sees it. Hell, her future, alternate timeline self created a time machine in order to save her friends and help her son in an alternate universe have a better life. In this way she’s an incredibly reliable worker, and will often work herself to the bone just to finish some repair on time if she has to be the one to do all the elbow work. While she may often indulge in bubble baths and whine about her beauty products and cleanliness, she isn’t at all afraid of getting dirty when it comes to inventions or repairing things that a certain saiyan prince has broken either training too hard or in a rage. Despite her propensity to react to being threatened by becoming scared and angry even at those who save her, Bulma tends to approach serious situations with a level head. While it may not last very long, in favor of a shrieking fit over her safety and her things, she does demonstrate the ability to make decisive decisions by herself that would serve both herself and her friends best. Rationality is her default way of handling things, even though fear and animal instinct to survive may take over a little too early for it to really take effect in most situations. Becoming a mother has also changed her priorities somewhat, and while she’s still as reckless as ever, and hot headed as she’s always been, having a son to worry about so far as the future makes her even more driven to create and make sure that the future is as good as it can possibly be in order for her son to grow up in it and prosper as best as she can try to.
On the other hand, her egotistical nature and domineering attitude can far overshadow any redeeming qualities Bulma expresses far less often. Just as Bulma is extremely intelligent, she is also extremely temperamental. Going from sweet and mild mannered, even flirtatious or openly salacious, to yelling and angry isn’t really too far of a stretch for her, depending on the situation and what’s being said. A prime example of this is her often openly flirtatious nature with men, whether they’re other fighters known to the Z Fighters or Vegeta (whom she calls cute on namek) or even Freiza’s henchmen Zarbon (who she flirts with before he fights the Z Fighters and transforms into a much uglier form). However when men approach her in a perverse or overly forward manner she is often either angry or put off by it. Often she’ll go from completely fine and neutral in a situation to a raging bull at one simple comment. She’s even been known to be able to throw around objects she might not be able to normally lift in these little fits of rage, and manages to scare her much stronger fighter counterparts in to submission more often than not. Vegeta even comments that Goku needs some more of her ‘signature slaps’ after his fight with Beerus. All the same it’s this domineering persona, along with lofty confidence, that seems to inspire her friends to have faith in what Bulma is able to do at times.
She also has a tendency for wanting to protect those she cares about, or at least defend them, and her temper often flares in order to do just that. When she isn’t terrorizing and pulverizing them into agreeing with her, that is. Her spoiled streak is never too far away from the surface, either, with her taste for expensive beauty products and large shopping trips that she insists on keeping nearby. Even stranded in the woods Bulma’s mind is often focused on her beauty products and whether she’s running out or not - regardless of how dire the situation actually is. Her shopping trips usually end up with whoever she ended up bringing with her carrying numerous bags full of rather revealing clothing that she likes to show off in.
Bulma does show peeks of her bratty, spoiled self from early on in the series from time to time, complaining about her conditions on Namek and etc, but time, motherhood and responsibility changes that. As a mother and friend she exceeds in helping and inventing in order to defeat each new enemy, and seems to be able to put aside her fear or selfishness at least for long enough to ensure the safety of her friends and the future.
Though... it doesn’t stop her from boasting about everything, that much is for sure.
CRAU developments:
Personality wise, not much has really changed about Bulma. She has always been the type of woman who tended to go and do for herself, to make things that she needs or wants and to just… live exactly how she wants to without very many limits. Naturally, she isn’t as strong or as powerful as her husband or her children, but with sheer force of will and the fattest bank account in the world, Bulma didn’t need to rely on anyone, really, to get things other than saving the world done and dusted.
Of course, that changed in Verens, where she was no longer the top of the food chain in either sense. She was no longer the richest woman in the world, the inventor dynamo known West City over - she was just Bulma, mother to Trunks and Bulla and wife of Vegeta.
However, needing to rely on her stronger, saiyan or half saiyan family members was a massive change. She relied more on Vegeta to take bounty jobs to bring in money, and going out and providing things easily for others wasn’t as effortless as before. However, it did bring more of a satisfaction out of providing for her family and friends, and gave Bulma a chance to redevelop a different kind of Verens Division Capsule Corp. From repairing old items to inventing new, or beginning her own hydroponic farm with the help of others to feed the larger appetites in their group, Bulma learned to rely a little more on others. Or at the very least to allow herself to, from time to time.
That’s not to say that she doesn’t forget, sometimes, but. Well. Even Bulma can’t be perfect all the time.
Key themes:
Learning. Being the best at what she does. Providing for her family.
Main Motivation:
Doing what she wants to do.
Skills:
Bulma isn’t super strong, fast, or powerful like her family, however, she is a genius in her own right, and one of the most intelligent people in her world. The only person she will claim to be second to is her father, Doctor Briefs. Bulma excels in technology, learning new tech, and building, and is a whiz on a computer or a drafting table to make new things out of nothing. She is known to have made a time machine both in the future and her current timeline, as well as dragon radars, and reviving old saiyan scouters without knowledge of alien tech. She has also built space faring ships in no time to travel to Namek when it was needed, and is near constantly updating a gravity room for Trunks and Vegeta’s training within the Capsule Corp compound.
Item:
A capsule case with one remaining capsule, that being the capsule that holds her tinkering tools and drafting materials.
